ATTIC CONVERSION

This project is a consulting project., where Studio Small was charged with the overall design and the clients organised and supervised the actual works on their own.

The clients wanted to transform their unused attic into a cozy and functional master suite, comprising a bedroom, dressing room and bathroom.

After studying several possible layouts, we opted for a configuration that combined comfort with a clear structure: a bedroom with a large dressing room at the back and a separate bathroom.

Two bespoke wooden screens were designed by Studio Small to provide a subtle demarcation between the different areas of the suite, while retaining the open feel of the attic.

The first screen, located between the bedroom and dressing room, marks the transition without dividing the space. It plays both a functional and aesthetic role, letting in light and creating a soft play of shadows.

The second screen was installed in the bathroom, to separate the bath from the toilet area. This gentle separation provides privacy, while contributing to the visual harmony of the room.

To maximise the space available, bespoke storage units have been integrated under the roof slopes. These discreet arrangements maximise storage capacity without taking on the living space.

As the roof has been completely redone, well-positioned roof windows and a dormer window have been integrated to provide a generous supply of natural light and interesting views of the exterior. The artificial lighting, meanwhile, has been designed to adapt to any time of day: discreet functional lighting is complemented by a few decorative suspensions, allowing the ambience to be modulated as required.

Studio Small has created an atmosphere that is both colourful and soothing. The palette of soft greens and pale pinks lends a warm note without overpowering the space. The white ceilings and oak elements soften the contrasts and add a touch of naturalness, creating the cosy, peaceful nest that the clients were looking for.
